A new method of creating battery electrodes based on nanotechnology could lead to the development of lithium-ion batteries that can be 90% charged in two minutes.
The new battery consists of extremely porous metal foams covered with a thick layer of active battery materials. The metal conducts the electricity, and the metal foam is able store an adequate amount of energy. The hollow structure of the foam enables the ions to move about freely, which greatly reduces the amount of time the battery needs to charge.
