REE Electric Car System Puts the Motors in the Wheels

REE Electric Car System Puts the Motors in the Wheels
Dec-24-19
The REE startup aims to revolutionize the electric vehicle by placing all the engine components directly next to the wheels.

Building on what the team calls a skateboard chassis, the REE modular design places the brakes, engine, powertrain and other elements directly next to the wheels and below the body of the car. This allows manufacturers to design the body of the car as they please, and also makes room for more batteries on board. The system is also lightweight, with a gearbox that weighs just over 13 pounds rather than the current versions that can weigh up more than 440 pounds. And because the design is modular, the same chassis can be used for a wide range of vehicles, reducing costs significantly.
