Rescue Escalator

Rescue Escalator
Jan-05-11
A combination conveyor belt and ladder could help firemen move people more quickly from burning buildings.

The hydraulic ladder, envisioned by Orville Douglas Denison, could extend as high as 113 feet. Using a system with rungs on rollers that slide on tracks, the ladder could lower four people to the ground in under four minutes. The standard time for rescue, using traditional methods, can take as long as 15 minutes.

The new system can be retro-fitted to existing fire trucks.
