Reversible USB Cables and Port First Look

Reversible USB Cables and Port First Look
Apr-03-14
USB reversible cables, which can be plugged into a device with either end, have come a step closer to the market with the newly-released artist's rendering of the potential final design.

Although the imminent release of reversible USB cable was announced last year, a design for the cables and port has only now been made available. The new cable, called USB Type-C, will be based on the specs of the USB 2.0 and 3.1, and can be fitted into the port with either end. The new USB Type-C ports will be a bit larger than a micro USB plug, replacing the current USB ports with a smaller footprint that will require less space on devices.

I don't really see any advantage in this at all. I would prefer to see effort going into making a usb cable that could go in upside down before I would want a reversible cable...

How about color-coding one of the cable sides so you know up vs. down. Helpful for old guys who can't see very well.
