RoBoSculpt Skull Drilling Robot

RoBoSculpt Skull Drilling Robot
Apr-27-18
The RoBoSculpt skull drilling robot from the Eindhoven University of Technology could make cranial surgeries both quicker and safer.

Drilling into the skull is tricky business, and can require painstaking hours as the surgeon labors to avoid the nerves and arteries. To help take some of this load off the surgeon, the RoBoSculpt robot relies on a CT scan of the patient’s skull as well as instructions from the surgeon to drill and remove the chosen sections of bone. At its most basic, the device is an advanced computer-controlled milling machine with seven axes of motion—but could prove very useful in surgeries after testing is complete.
