Robot Shows Dance Moves

Feb-26-09 This fully autonomous robot not only dances, it knows what kind of music is going down and makes the right moves. The next step, of course, is learning to move with partners.

Applying advanced principles of artificial intelligence, algorithms that give the robot the ability to recognize rhythm and melody, and an integrated system for intelligent hearing, the dancing robot reacts in sync with the kind of music it hears.

The robot's creator, João Oliveira, a student finalist at the Masters in Integrated Electrical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, built the robot entirely out of Legos.
