Sensor Monitors Vitals from a Distance

Sensor Monitors Vitals from a Distance
Jan-07-18
A new sensor inspired by anti-theft tags can monitor a patient’s vital signs from a distance, without contact.

Developed by a team at Cornell University, the “cracker-sized” tags emit radio waves able to measure the activity of the heart and lungs without hampering the patient’s ability to move about. The tags do not need direct skin contact, and rely on near-field coherent sensing that allows individuals to be monitored separately with no interference.
