Sentinel Wrap Package Indicates Food Safety

Sentinel Wrap Package Indicates Food Safety
Apr-08-18
The Sentinel Wrap transparent patch can be applied to food packaging to indicate if the contents are safe to eat.

Developed by a team from McMaster University, the patch is printed with molecules able to detect the presence of pathogens like E. coli and Salmonella and trigger a signal that can be read by a smartphone. The patch would be integrated into packaging, where it could replace the ‘best before’ date with a more definitive appraisal of the food’s safety.
