In an effort to make it easier for people to use smart devices in the work environment, Fujitsu researchers have developed a smart glove that provides touch and gesture capabilities.

Although devices like smart phones and tablets are becoming increasingly useful for activities such as activity-logging, they are also vulnerable to dirt and dampness—common features in many work environments.

The glove, created to allow more hands-free operation while also letting smart devices remain safely stowed, is equipped with near field communication reader (NFC) and a sensor on the finger. The NFC reader allows the wearer to simply touch the NFC tag of an object to identify it, add it to inventory or even call up the work orders (which could be displayed on a head-mounted display). The glove is also able to recognize hand gestures, which the team believes could control the head-mounted display while still keeping the hands free.
