Smart Hive Listens for Bee Health

Smart Hive Listens for Bee Health
Aug-10-17
A new smart home for bees helps track hive health by monitoring what the bees are saying to each other.

Developed by graduate student Oldooz Pooyanfar, from Simon Fraser University, the smart hive platform is designed to work with a number of hives, and relies on sensors attached to the hive wall. Microphones monitor the sounds of the bees within the hive while other sensors keep track of temperature and humidity, collecting data that is then analyzed and used to alert the beekeeper to any anomalies.

Are there nest boxes for bees as there are for birds? People could support pollinators with simple nests where honey is not removed and sugar is given when necessary.
