Smart Mouth Guard Detects Concussions in Real Time

Smart Mouth Guard Detects Concussions in Real Time
Dec-20-16
The Smart Mouth Guard from Prevent Biometrics pairs with a mobile device to let athletes and their coaches know if they have suffered a concussion.

Developed in collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic over a six-year period, the mouth guard is equipped with sensors able to detect the location, direction and force of the impact, and then send that data in real time to a paired device. If the impact data implies a potential concussion, a red light will illuminate to indicate the injury and have the player pulled from the game.

According to the developers, the smart mouth guard has only a five percent margin of error, which also makes it the “only product to meet the NFL’s standard for head impacts.”
