Smart Wound Sensor Monitors Healing

Smart Wound Sensor Monitors Healing
Aug-28-19
A smart wound sensor able to detect healing could lead to a better treatment—and understanding—of chronic wounds.

The microsensor created by a team at the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University could eventually be embedded in a bandage, where it will monitor the microscale mechanical changes happening within the tissue. According to the team, the mechanical measurements “much like how a doctor would prod a lump” would allow caregivers to monitor the wound healing without having to remove the bandage or simply rely on a patient’s report of pain.
