Solar Powered Mosquito Trap Smells Like Humans

Aug-11-16 An innovative new solar powered mosquito trap uses human odor to attract the dangerous parasites.

The trap was designed specially to capture the Anopheles funestus mosquito, which carries malaria, and is baited with five chemicals that simulate the odor of humans, along with carbon dioxide. The trap is solar powered (many similar odor traps require electricity to operate), and unlike poison-based traps, the insects are unlikely to build up a resistance, since they detect human odors in order to survive.
