Sound Cloak Traps Sound Waves

Sound Cloak Traps Sound Waves
Dec-25-11
Researchers have developed an invisibility cloak that traps sound waves, preventing the sound from leaving the material.

The proof of concept 'cloak' is a small, thin plate made up of rings of micro-structured polymer material that resonate at different frequencies. Sound wave vibrations follow a circular path around the plate, unable to leave the material.

According to the developers, the cloak differs from conventional noise protection devices in that the sound waves are neither absorbed nor reflected.
