Steering Wheel-Integrated AlcoStop Help Stop Drunk Driving

Apr-28-15 The AlcoStop system helps stop drunk driving by analyzing the driver’s blood alcohol level via the steering wheel.

Developed by a team of students from the Institute of Technology of Cintalapa, the AlcoStop system features an array of sensors built into the steering wheel that will analyze the user’s sweat to determine if they should not be driving. If the individual is determined to be too drunk to drive, the system will prevent the car from starting and contact family or friends to alert them to the driver’s condition.

The team is now working to finalize the system for commercial availability.
