Sundrop Farms Grows Tomatoes with Seawater

Sundrop Farms Grows Tomatoes with Seawater
Oct-07-16
The Sundrop Farms greenhouse grows crops with sunlight and seawater.

Being declared a “first for the world,” the Sundrop Farms facility relies on an array of more than 23,000 mirrors to capture sunlight and direct it to a “power” tower, which produces the energy for electricity, heating and desalination. The water for the greenhouse is pumped from the Spencer Gulf and subjected to a thermal desalination unit, resulting in fresh water that is exceptionally clean and can be enhanced with nutrients for the plants.

According to project co-lead Reinier Wolterbeek, more Sundrop Farms greenhouses are planned for opening in different areas around the world.
