Super Simple Bicymple Uses No Chains or Gears

Super Simple Bicymple Uses No Chains or Gears
Oct-08-12
The Bicymple is a simplified bicycle, eliminating the chain and gears completely by locating the pedals on the back wheel.

Still in the concept stage, the Bicymple minimalist design includes a CroMo steel frame consisting of two bars between the wheels as well as diagonally placed forks, which leaves only a small gap between the front and back wheels. The rear steering and lightweight offers new maneuverability options and the simplified design is easy to maintain.

The small size of the Bicymple also makes it easier to transport through stairwells, hallways and other tight spaces.

Pedals behind you makes an uncomfortable riding position.

I HAD A LIGHTWEIGHT BIKE THAT I HAD INHERITED FROM MY FATHER FROM THE 30'S. IT HAD THE GEARING IN THE BACK AXLE SO THAT IT COULD BE SHIFTED WHEN YOU STOPPED PEDALING AND PUT BACK PRESSURE ON THE CHAIN FOR A SECOND FOR 3 SPEEDS.

The concept is an interesting one, however, has the innovator considered the rationale behind the reasons as to why a modern bicycle is built to a particular design that has more or less remained unchanged since it first came into production. Has this bike been designed for transiting horizontal surfaces only? What about inclines? I personaly would not buy this concept.

I too would hesitate buying this concept. Though its practical its so limited in versatility by it eliminating the gearing, how is it better than my regular mountain bike? I wish away was found by the designer to incorporate the gears in the hub maybe.

I don't want to be Mr. Negative, but this reminds me of a unicycle with a front wheel placed on the front. The guy riding probably took many an hour trying to figure out how not to crash it- it seems really unstable. I don't see the benefit. I too was thinking he might have some gearing in the back-hub and it would be Symple to ride.

Can you imagine the wheelies you could do with this bike. You could probably go for miles. Wheelie king!
