The TastyFloats food delivery system promises better tasting food through levitation.
Developed by a team at the University of Sussex, the TastyFloats relies on established technology—creating standing waves of ultrasound—to suspend small pieces of food in midair. Because the size and density of food pieces will vary, the system had to be carefully programmed to adapt to different weights and shapes.
The driving theory behind the TastyFloats is that our perception of food will change based on the way it is delivered. According to volunteers who tried food served by the system, sweet flavors were intensified, while bitter tastes were reduced.
Levitation works also in water and other liquids. With levitating materials and blocks massive art constructions, self-organizing structures, child’s play, group therapy and other activities could be done in pools. Posted by Uolevi Kattun on October 11, 2017
