Teaching Robots Language

Teaching Robots Language
Mar-04-17
Researchers at Purdue have developed a robot able to learn language and follow commands.

The wheeled robot makes use of three algorithms created by the team, which allows the bot to learn words from example sentences that describe a path. Once it has been exposed to the words, the robot can then generate a sentence to describe its path, as well as comprehend sentences.

In tests, the camera-equipped robot was given a sentence describing a path, which an operator then steered it down. After following the path, the robot learned the words for the obstacles it had encountered, and was able to generate sentences to “describe a separate path of travel on the same course.”
