A new prototype video camera that uses radio waves to see through bodies as they move past could help keep security lines moving.
Terahertz scanners are already being used in some areas, but, until now, they weren’t able to produce video. The new camera, developed by a team from Ohio University, features thousands of tiny antennas and a transmitter that beams terahertz radiation at the object to be scanned. The radiation is then picked up by the antennas and the data sent to a computer, which translates the electrical signal into a pixel. The number of antennas allows the camera to pick up the terahertz radiation fast enough to create a video.
