The eTriage System Expedites Medical Care

The eTriage System Expedites Medical Care
Dec-18-13
The eTriage system is designed to make it easier for emergency response crews to coordinate and speed up patient care, particularly during large-scale emergencies.

Typical triage systems involve tagging patients with color-coded tags that indicate the severity of their injuries and their vitals at the time. However, vital signs can change, and the paper tags can be damaged by weather.

To address this issue, the eTriage system uses color-coded armbands equipped with GPS and RFID chips as well as a component that allows the device to communicate with a data network. Severely injured victims also have sensors attached to their body that transmit their vitals to a central response center. The armbands communicate via an independent ZigBee network, which will remain functioning even when other networks are down.
