The Nano Membrane Toilet Creates its Own Water and Power

The Nano Membrane Toilet Creates its Own Water and Power
Dec-13-15
The Nano Membrane Toilet can treat waste on site with no water or external power, offering a life-changing solution to families in rural areas around the world.

Developed by a team from Cranfield University, the Nano Membrane Toilet is able to process both solid and liquid waste efficiently for up to 10 people. After a rotation mechanism transports the waste into the toilet (and out of sight), the waste is separated into solid and liquid via sedimentation. A special membrane facilitates the transition of the liquid waste to vapor, and that vapor is then sent through a “nano-coated” bead that collects water droplets to harvest the now-clean water for re-use. The solid waste is sent to a “gasifier” that converts the waste to ash and energy, which can be used to power the toilet itself as well as small gadgets.
