Tiny Glider Spies Behind Enemy Lines

Tiny Glider Spies Behind Enemy Lines
Dec-08-11
The small CICADA unmannedglider is super small, designed to travel into hostile territory and gather intelligence without endangering human lives.

Developed by the US Naval Research Laboratory, the CICADA (Close-In Covert Autonomous Disposable Aircraft), is designed to be released over its target by a high altitude balloon or aircraft. The glider will then spiral and glide down slowly to the ground, its small size and silence making it hard to detect.

The single wing of the CICADA is a printed circuit board that doubles as an autopilot, reducing assembly time and cost while adding strength to the construction.
