Tiny Microchip Could Allow For Wireless Brain Signal Transmission

Tiny Microchip Could Allow For Wireless Brain Signal Transmission
Feb-14-16
A new microchip able to process brain signals for wireless transmission could open the door to new treatment options for people suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

The microchip is a significant improvement over previous options, which have required either wires or a large battery to handle the high level of power needed to transmit the data. Created by a team from the Nanyang Technological University, the new chip is both wireless and small, thanks to a new machine learning algorithm that allows data patterns from the brain to be compressed and then decoded to a 99.3 percent accuracy.
