Toray Eco-Friendly Water-Repellant Nylon

Toray Eco-Friendly Water-Repellant Nylon
Jul-12-19
An innovative new water-repellant nylon textile from Toray Industries can be manufactured with less cost to the environment.

Typically, water repellent fabrics rely on fluorine-based treatments and PFOA, which can be harmful to both humans and the environment. As an eco-friendly alternative, Toray Industries developed thier new NANODESIGN proprietary spinning technology. The new method created a textile structure with microscopic slits that are filled with C6 water repellents (which are safer for the environment but previously not suitable for outdoor sports). The slits not only hold the C6 in place, they also resist abrasion—a main reason DWR treatments usually degrade.
