Touch-Free System for Moving Medical Equipment

Touch-Free System for Moving Medical Equipment
May-02-14
A touch-free, gesture control system for medical equipment could help improve operating room efficiency by reducing how often the devices must be sanitized.

Since medical clinicians move and operate equipment as well as work with patients, even equipment that does not contact a patient directly needs to be sterilized. As an alternative to physically contacting medical equipment, a team from Marquette University collaborated with the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design and GE Healthcare Global Design to create a gestural control system that allows workers to guide the equipment remotely, without needing to touch it. The system features camera-embedded glasses, which recognizes the devices to be moved and connects with them via Bluetooth.
