Train Car Can Reconfigure for Passengers or Freight

May-06-15 A new train car system proposed by 42 Technology can be reconfigured to suit the needs of passengers or freight.

Developed as part of the Tomorrow’s Train Design Today (TTDT) competition, the system would make train travel more profitable by taking advantage of the times when passenger travel is low. During those times, such as after the evening commute is over, the passenger cars could be reconfigured to hold and secure freight, providing a way to use the otherwise empty space.

According to the developers, the system could reduce road congestion in the UK while also providing extra revenue to the rail network, without raising operating expenses.
