Transparent Graphene Tattoo Tracks Vitals

Transparent Graphene Tattoo Tracks Vitals
Aug-11-17
A transparent, graphene-based tattoo able to track a number of vital signs could offer a new method of health monitoring.

The tattoos, from a team at the University of Texas at Austin, are made from a layer of graphene and transparent polymer that has been transferred to a standard ‘tattoo paper’ sheet. The graphene layer can be etched in different patterns to function as a variety of sensors able to measure vitals such as skin temperature, hydration, or even work as ECG and EEG readers, and the tattoo can be transferred to the skin with just a bit of water.
