Transparent Lightboard for Video Lessons

Transparent Lightboard for Video Lessons
Jan-23-14
Designed for recording video lessons, the Lightboard lets the teacher face forward while sketching the lesson on the board.

Professor Michael Peshkin of Northwestern University developed the Lightboard to allow him to face the camera while recording his video lessons, which creates a more engaging experience for the student. The board is made from a 4 x 8 pane of architectural glass lit by strips of white LEDs at the top and bottom. A black background behind the board and fluorescent markers make his notes stand out vividly, and the system also allows videos to be projected onto the board.

To correct orientation of the notes for the viewer, Prof. Peshkin shoots the video through a mirror. He has offered DIY instructions on his website.
