Transparent Patch Releases Pain Killer

Transparent Patch Releases Pain Killer
Dec-12-15
A new transparent patch that will automatically release ibuprofen to help control pain locally could offer an alternative to potentially risky oral doses.

Developed by a team from the University of Warwick and the bioadhesive company Medherant, the pain-relief patch is made up of a polymer matrix able to hold up to 30 percent of its weight in the drug (previous examples held only 10 percent). The drug can be delivered at a consistent rate over 12 hours, while reducing the risks associated with taking the medication orally in large doses.
