Triple Ohm Tracks Energy Use by Appliance

Triple Ohm Tracks Energy Use by Appliance
Oct-03-17
A smarter smart meter able to separate resource use by appliance could offer a better way to track home energy use.

The technology, called Triple Ohm, was developed by 42 Technology, and is based on the idea that different appliances have different energy signatures.

By monitoring the changes in the current or voltage harmonics of the power supply when certain appliances are activated, the system can determine how much energy each appliance is consuming in real time. That information can be sent to a smartphone or delivered as a summary report, allowing homeowners to take better control of their energy consumption.
