A new method of encapsulating liquid medication is faster and easier—potentially lowering the cost of pharmaceuticals while also improving drug delivery.
Created by a team from the University of Waterloo, the method relies on using gravity to wrap the drops of medication in a shell as they fall through a thin layer of it floating on a liquid. The shell can then be exposed to ultraviolet light to harden it, and the simple process is fast and inexpensive. According to the team, the method can also be fine-tuned to coat the medication with multiple layers and create more stable capsules.
