The partly-wind powered Vindskip ship from Norwegian designers Lade AS features a hull specifically designed to harness the wind.
Inspired by the aerospace industry, the company describes their hull as a symmetrical airfoil. The airfoil helps to generate a degree of lift in the wind, pulling the ship through the water, and would supplement the liquefied natural gas-powered electrical generator.
The company has also suggested that a computer navigation system could use weather data to help to plot the course that would best allow the ship to take advantage of the wind.
