WASP Printer Printers Homes of Mud

WASP Printer Printers Homes of Mud
Oct-22-14
The 3D printers from Wasp offer a new low-cost housing solution by printing homes made of clay and mud on location.

The current printer is about 20 feet tall and can be assembled and used on location—a key point in the team's design approach. It works by extruding mud, sand and other natural materials, which allows the home's design to follow the natural contours of the area instead of being bound by hand-formed, square bricks. Not only can the printer build a home with less time and effort than the traditional by-hand method, it also allows a new level of creativity when designing the home.

The printer was on display at the Rome Maker Faire, where it printed the foundation of a smaller, 13-foot tall model of a typical mud-extrusion home. Although time and material constraints kept the structure from being completed, the team did get to prove their printer's potential.
