A prototype house design that uses water as an insulator could maintain a perfect indoor temperature while consuming significantly less energy than conventional structures.
The house, created by 34-year-old Matyas Gutai after a decade of research, features walls of glass panels filled with water. As the water is heated by the sun, the excess heat is stored in a tank for use during colder weather. An integrated monitoring system allows the occupant to control the interior temperature by releasing the stored heat when needed.
The Water House was developed with money from EU funding and the Hungarian government, and is already attracting the attention of architects and builders.
