Watershed Block Cuts Concrete Use in Half

Watershed Block Cuts Concrete Use in Half
Jan-30-14
The Watershed Block uses half the cement of a conventional concrete block, offering an eco-friendly alternative to one of the most common building materials currently in use.

The blocks are made from naturally-sourced materials and are about 10 to 15 percent heavier than traditional concrete blocks. The extra density makes for sturdier construction as well as contributing to increased insulation qualities. The Watershed blocks can be installed in the same way as regular blocks, and although the blocks meet code requirements for structural performance, their permit process must follow the same protocol for “Alternative Material, Design or Methods.”

The company has joined forces with the National Science Foundation to research a durable block made with no cement at all.

This has been around for several decades. My family built our house 25 years ago with similar to these. It's quite a standard in construction industry

The cavities could be filled with foam making them even more eco-friendly.

Hi
I live in South Africa can you send me more info on this and how to manufacture or partner with us in the manufacturing of these blocks hence there is a huge market for block since we are a developing country

Thank you for your interest, Thando-
At the moment we are only operating from one beta factory in the Bay Area of San Francisco and distributing within a 250 mile radius. As we continue development, we'll surely be looking for expansion throughout the U.S. and internationally.
The technology behind making durable structural blocks with less (or no) cement at an affordable price is tricky. So it will be a bit of time until we can scale to South Africa but we are very aware of the need for products like this in your area - we have already received a good amount of interest from South Africa.
Thank you again for your interest and please stay in touch with us on our Website and Facebook page.

Hi
how can I get sample or start this project in Pakistan?

Not just for decades, but for centuries. The big problem with the building block is that there is nothing to stop moisture from traveling across the internal web, thus allowing internal walls to suffer from condensation and damp in the winter and heat transference in the summer. the only way of achieving this is to build with a cavity, a waterproof membrane will stop the water from traveling across but not the heat or cold.
