The WaterWheel was designed to replace the bucket-method of carrying water in developing counties by allowing women to transport up to five times as much water as traditional methods.
The social venture Wello developed the prototype after conducting field interviews and research in villages in India. Designed to be rolled along the ground in front of the user, the WaterWheel can carry 50 L of and features a cap-in-cap seal specially designed to prevent recontamination at the point of use, which is considered the single most effective way to reduce diarrheal disease.
Women in developing countries spend more than 25 percent of their day collecting water.
