Waterwheel Washing Machine is Powered by Water

Waterwheel Washing Machine is Powered by Water
Mar-19-14
The Waterwheel Washing Machine combines the Chinese waterwheel with the spinning motions of today’s washing machines, resulting in an inexpensive device powered entirely by water.

Designed for people who live near water but do not have access to electricity, the Waterwheel’s body is divided into three separate compartments (cabins) that can accommodate the clothes of three different families. The cabins are lined with triangular ridges of wood, which increase the agitation of the clothes, while the inset vanes fill with the moving water to both wet the clothes and spin the water wheel.

The Waterwheel Washing Machine won a Red Dot Design Award in 2013.
