Wearable Generates Electricity from Body Heat

Wearable Generates Electricity from Body Heat
Sep-01-16
Researchers have developed a wearable device able to generate electricity from body heat, which could one day be used to power medical devices and wearable devices.

Created by a team from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, the device is made up of a pair of gel electrolytes able to generate as much as 0.7 volts by taking advantage of the thermogalvanic effect. The larger the difference in body heat and the environment, the more electricity the device can generate.

Currently, however, the device has only been successfully tested in extremely cold environments—but the system does open the door to a new generation of wearables powered by body heat.
