Wearable Sensor Detects Glucose in Sweat

Wearable Sensor Detects Glucose in Sweat
Mar-17-17
Researchers have developed a wearable sensor able to detect small changes in glucose and release insulin as needed.

The sensor, from a team at the Institute for Basic Science in South Korea, is equipped with a specialized multilayer design that improves the collection of the sweat from the skin. Other factors, such as temperature, pH, and humidity are analyzed to provide a correct glucose reading, which previously has been difficult in real-life conditions.

The sensor can also release insulin as needed via a system of heat-activated microneedles preloaded with nanoparticles of drugs.
