The white solar panels from CSEM were created to blend more seamlessly into architecture, and could also find their way to EVs and consumer electronics.
The panels were designed to be sleek and subtle, with no visible electronics. In order to allow the panels to be manufactured in different colors, the team at CSEM developed a new technology that incorporates a layer of colored plastic over the solar cell panels. The plastic layer reflects all visible light while still admitting the infrared rays required for the photovoltaics to generate electricity. According to the company, the plastic layer can be used with any existing solar panel, even ones that are curved.
As an added bonus, the white solar panels will stay cooler than conventional panels, increasing their efficiency and potentially lowering the cost of cooling the building's interior.
