WiFi Lighting

WiFi Lighting
Dec-29-10
Now LED lighting not only saves money but can also be used as data transmitters, creating a light based wireless network.

Designed by LVX, the LED bulbs transmit data by blinking to light sensing modems attached to computers. The modems can transmit the data back in the same way, supplementing the traditional WiFi and helping reduce congestion.

The LED lights flicker faster than the eye can detect, so the blinking is not distracting.

What about the trasmitability in case of not straight line between the light and sensing modem?

Interesting: We had 20 years ago in IBM Rüschlikon a project to connect Terminal Displays in a room via modulated Infrared light (with diffuse scattering at the ceiling).

but how do you make sure that there are no obstacles between the transmitter and the receiver, light can not pass through everything....
