Window Film Shifts Transparency to Block Heat

Window Film Shifts Transparency to Block Heat
Nov-08-18
A transparent film able to block 70 percent of solar heat could drastically reduce energy costs.

Created by a team at MIT, the heat-rejecting film has been embedded with microparticles made up of a phase-changing material that will shrink when exposed to temperatures higher than 89 degrees F. As the microparticles shrink, they cause the transparent film to become translucent—blocking solar heat while still allowing light to come in.
