Wireless EV Charging Stations Disguised as Manhole Covers

Wireless EV Charging Stations Disguised as Manhole Covers
Oct-17-13
Manhole cover-inspired wireless charging stations for EV vehicles will soon allow drivers to charge their vehicles simply by parking on top of the unit.

Created by Hevo Power, the system makes use of new wireless induction charging technology. The new technology is not terribly efficient yet, but the Hevo team has addressed that problem by incorporating a resonance-based system that charges the battery faster and reduces energy loss. Users can also take advantage of the smartphone based Hevo Power app, which will allow them to locate stations, pay for the charge and monitor the speed of charging.

Hevo hopes to unveil the charging stations by 2014 in New York’s Washington Square Park, and is currently focusing on powering “Neighborhood Electric Vehicles,” such as inner-city delivery vehicles.
