WiSP Wearable Smart Patch

WiSP Wearable Smart Patch
Apr-15-16
Created by MC10, the WiSP wearable smart patch is equipped with NFC, bringing us a step closer to contactless payments and continual medial monitoring.

Developed as part of MC10’s Wearable Interactive Stamp Platform (WiSP), the stamp is a bit larger than a postage stamp, and could offer an array of applications. It is made up of three layers, which are key to its unique properties: a layer embedded with the antenna and NDC chip; a layer of stretchy, medical-grade adhesive that is comfortable on the skin; and a top, UV protective liner that covers the antenna and chip. The stamp can be worn for up to two days, and is designed to “self-destruct” when removed, for increased security.

The team has mentioned several possible applications for the technology, including hotel room access, transmitting patient information in hospitals, interactive experiences at theme parks, and contact-free payments.
