World's First Multi-Material Color 3D Printer

World's First Multi-Material Color 3D Printer
Jan-31-14
By combining three different base materials, the Objet500 Connex3 3D printer from Stratasys is able to produce objects with a variety of colors and material characteristics.

The printer uses three colors—cyan, magneta and yellow—that can be combined with other polymers to create objects that feature combinations of soft, rigid or transparent qualities. The triple-jet technology allows for hundreds of different color and material combinations (up to 45 different colors in one object), which can be mixed together without the need for additional components or manufacturing steps.

According to Stratasys, the main benefit of color multi-material printing is that it allows the designer to create products with precisely the properties needed, which in turn allows the project to be evaluated more quickly by potential manufacturers.
