World's Smallest Diamond Transistor

World's Smallest Diamond Transistor
Apr-14-09
Scientists at the University of Glasgow have developed the world’s smallest diamond transistor, with the "gate" measuring just 50 nanometres in length.

Diamond is an ideal material for nanoscale devices due to its unique properties, and new transistor designs based on diamonds could help scientists develop entirely new technologies such as Automotive Collision Detection.

Automotive collision detection is a safety feature currently being researched, and applications such as this require very fast and high-power transistor technologies that need to operate in adverse weather conditions. This new diamond transistor technology fits very well with this requirement.
