XploR Smart Cane Identifies Friends

XploR Smart Cane Identifies Friends
May-10-15
The XploR mobility cane does more than help the visually-impaired navigate their environment—it also helps them recognize friends.

Created by a trio of students from Birmingham City University, the XploR cane is equipped with facial recognition technology that allows it to identify a familiar face from up to 33 feet away. The faces are supplied by the user and stored on an internal SD card, which the system uses to check and identify faces. When a face is deemed familiar, the cane will vibrate and guide the user to the person via GPS and auditory instructions sent through an earpiece.
