Yerka Project Seeks a Theft-Proof Bike
Sep-04-14
The Yerka Project has the bike world abuzz with what may be the world's first unstealable bike.

Created by three engineering students, the Yerka Bike was designed around the idea of building the lock into the bike—in this case, the frame. The frame's lower tube can separate and open outward, forming a pair of arms that extend enough to be placed around a solid object like a pole or bike rack. The bike's seat (with the post attached) is then removed and inserted through the open ends of the arms to form the lock.

The team believes the integrated lock will act as a powerful theft-deterrent, since breaking the lock would also damage the frame and render the bike useless for riding. They are now hoping to gain support for their idea and are looking for backers.
