The Yubi Navi prototype makes it easier to use a smartphone's navigation system while walking by transmitting the directions via tactile cues.
Developed by NTT Domoco, the Yubi Navi system consists of a small, hand-held wand that communicates with a smartphone via Bluetooth. When the user approaches an upcoming turn, the wand will vibrate and then twist in the direction of the turn. The device will also bulge slightly in the middle to prompt the user to stop.
According the developers, the device should also help encourage people to look around a bit more as they make their way through a new neighborhoos.
